5 years ago exactly to the day of publishing this post, I brought my guitar in to play for the first time, on the last day before a holiday weekend. I thought I had lost the video this audio is taken from.

This was performed near the peak of Covid, in the grainy photo you can see me wearing a medical mask, what isn’t heard is my asking the hallway of 80+ people: “do you want to hear a song expressing my feelings about Covid, or just a fun song.”
-Unanimously they said “covid”

I don’t want to overthink this - it is simply the mind and body (both) becoming consumed with some activity that draws the attention away from any likes or dislikes, from any desire or pain. Flow State is the Third Path to Happiness that I eluded to in a past post.

Chaddi (pronounced chuddy) are cloth diapers worn by young children in India. So this is a recording of two chaddi buddies; two childhood friends. This was during one of those holiday season reunions, the kind in comedy movies. The same first job, at a video game store. I cringe listening to some of this, but I can’t help but smile hearing us return to our high school sense of humor as we relive high school memories.

Audio Explanation: Found sound projects have always been one of my favorite expressions of art. They are at times like an impressionist painting; placing you in an environment that feels as real as one’s imagination allows. They can also be more like an abstract, with repetitive sounds calling forth a dream like state, a hyper-realism. I’m not an audio engineer, nor do I have the free time some of my recordings from Italy deserve, but I do enjoy stitching these types of tracks together. I hope you enjoy this rough cut.

I mentioned in the Author’s reflection on my last post that I never tell my coma story the same exact way twice. This recording of me from 2017 and is slightly embarrassing to my own ears, I sound too performative, but I suppose that was the instruction. A few weeks after my first interview with Jonathon Goldstein for the Heavyweight Podcast, an audio engineer asked me to record my coma experience for a VR project that never came to be. This is far from a final edit and I am waiting for them to respond (hopefully on vacation) before I publish their name and give credit. Considering this track is not the final, was originally meant to have a visual component, and may not be works they wish to have their name on.

I once worked jobs that allowed me to listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks basically my whole work day aside from meetings, allowing me to consume hundreds of hours of content; providing me a sense of accomplishment beyond the paycheck. Once my work became high content communication, these hours of listening migrated to the background of chores, drives, and some creative endeavors.

As a way of both building an audience and satiating those who are listening as much as reading, I’ll be releasing a piece of audio to accompany the main twice a month Sunday posts, when possible. These will mostly be relics or unpolished practice.
